Cleveland ISD Teacher Accused of Choking 5th Grade Student

CLEVELAND, February 16, 2012 - Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 4th grade teacher, Mr. Carlos Artieda was working morning duty at Eastside Elementary where he engaged in a verbal argument with a 5th grade student.

The argument escalated and Mr. Artieda allegedly choked the student. Campus administration and the Cleveland ISD Police Department have concluded their investigation and the parents of the 5th grade student have filed charges against Mr. Artieda. An arrest warrant has been issued by the Cleveland ISD Police Department and Mr. Artieda has been charged with injury to a child.

The warrant for Mr. Artieda has been served and he has posted a $5,000 bond and is out now out of jail.

Cleveland ISD does not tolerate this behavior from any employee and Mr. Artieda was placed on administrative leave the same day of the incident. Mr. Artieda began working for Cleveland ISD in August of 2006 and is on a term contract with the district. His future employment at the district will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees at the next regular Board of Trustees meeting where his contract will be proposed for non-renewal.
