Drug Arrest at Inn at Liberty Motel

LIBERTY, August 23, 2012 – Early Thursday morning the City of Liberty Police Department received a call for service at the Inn at Liberty Motel.

Police confronted the man and sent him back to his room at the motel. At this point responding Officer Frank Longoria notice a man walking fast out of room 256, the desk clerk did not recognize him and called out to him.

According to Officer Longoria after confronting him sitting in a vehicle with a woman, a small pill canister, as sold at convenience stores, was found in the man’s pocket with a white powdery residue inside. The man claimed he was visiting his cousin but could not remember his cousin’s name and they were smoking cocaine in the room.

The man was identified as Derwick Emil Cladwell age 41 of Liberty. He was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Liberty County Jail.

Caldwell’s criminal history contains charges for Assault Class A, DWI, Failure to Identify as a Fugitive from Justice, Theft, Forgery, Evading Arrest or Detention and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Soon a couple of guys came out of a room at the motel and walked briskly to their red pickup leaving the motel. They were confronted by officers at the Valero and returned to the motel.

Officer Longoria requested consent to search their room and found a crack pipe wrapped up in a hand towel and crack rocks under the bed.

Arrested in this unrelated incident to the original call was Felton Cormier, Jr. age 48 of Ames for Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
