Alligators Everywhere

LIBERTY, May 5, 2012 - During the last month, the City of Liberty Police Department has received 14 calls in reference to alligators.

In spring and summer, alligators are moving to breed or find a new habitat, and most of them are smaller alligators that have been pushed out of their normal habitat by the larger alligators.

If a person finds an alligator and the alligator is in its natural habitat, like a pond, the alligator should be left alone. Most alligators shy away from people but problems arise when alligators are fed by people. If the alligator is around homes and there is no water around contact the Liberty Police Department at 936-336-5666 or Texas Parks and Wildlife at 281-842-8100.

The Liberty Police Department would like to remind everyone not to approach an alligator or try to move one. The only people allowed to move the alligators is a Game Warden or someone who has a license for nuisance animals.
