Serious Accident on SH 146

LIBERTY, November 5, 2009 - Thursday afternoon at 2:12 PM traffic on North Main Street from the SH 146 Bypass to Hough Street, across from the Liberty County Teachers Credit Union was halted as the result of a two-vehicle accident that sent the drivers of both vehicles to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty by ambulance for observation according to Officer Tony Stines.

Officer Stines with the City of Liberty Police Department investigated the accident and reported that both vehicles involved were insured.

According to Officer Stines a white Nissan Xterra traveling north on North main Street had come to a stop to make a left turn onto Hough Street and a white Dodge Charger failed to control speed and struck the Nissan in the rear. The force of the collision rolled the Nissan onto its’ right side blocking the southbound lane.

The driver of the Charger was Kevin Colone age 28 of Beaumont and the driver of the Nissan was Francisca Sierra age 54 of Liberty.

Traffic was snarled near the accident scene as the roadway was cleared and the injured evacuated to the hospital.

According to Officer Stines the driver of the Dodge, Kevin Colone will be issued a citation for Failure to Control Speed.
