SO Investigates Homicide in Kenefick

KENEFICK, November 4, 2009 - Wednesday morning the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department discovered the body of a man in a pasture in Kenefick with the assistance of Texas Department of Criminal Justice Tracking dogs.

According to Steve Greene of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office a family member notified the Sheriff’s Department that Michael Gooden, age 32 of Kenefick had been missing since Sunday. The call notifying authorities came after the family member discovered blood in Gooden’s pickup parked at his residence on FM 1008 about three miles north of the railroad tracks in Kenefick. The call to authorities came in a 11:24 PM on Tuesday night.

Gooden’s body was discovered in a pasture behind his residence about 400 yards from where his truck was parked.

According to Greene, Gooden had suffered a head injury leading investigators to suspect foul play. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this incident as a possible homicide.

Investigators Joel Davila, Michelle Watson and Don Neyland of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department are conducting the investigation.
