Car Hits Deer on SH 321

DAYTON, November 5, 2009 - Driving the roads of Liberty County after dark can pose serious challenges.

DPS Corporal Rob Willoughby responded to an accident on SH 321 just north of the prison Wednesday night around 8:30 PM where a northbound sedan had struck a deer crossing the road.

Corporal Willoughby told i-dineout.com that DPS Trooper Boyd Lamb was traveling the same stretch of road only a couple of nights ago and narrowly missed hitting a deer crossing the road. Trooper Lamb’s encounter with the deer was captured on the patrol cars video camera and upon review of the tape it appeared to be the same deer involved in the accident Wednesday night.

According to Corporal Willoughby the deer was crossing the roadway from west to east and ran into the driver’s side of the northbound sedan driven by Jeanette Woods, age 56 of Cleveland. After striking the driver’s side door the deer went over the hood and collided with the windshield and roof of the vehicle.

Liberty County EMS transported Woods to Cleveland Regional Medical Center suffering form cuts and shards of glass in her eyes.
