Big Screen TV Theft, Almost LIBERTY, December 17, 2009 - On Wednesday, December 16, just before 9:00pm, Liberty police officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart. Loss prevention personnel were reportedly chasing two white female subjects that had tried to steal two 40-inch flat screen TVs. The two women had run away when loss prevention confronted them outside the store. Both women were found and arrested a short time later. They were hiding in a small wooded area just north Chili’s restaurant. They were Shirley Redwine, 46, of Pasadena, and Janet Money, 39, of Stafford. Liberty PD Officer Rolando Aguilar and Sergeant David Hunter investigated the incident. An unidentified white male and a white female had purchased two 40-inch flat screen TVs, valued at $600 each. They exited the store and placed the TVs in their vehicle. Then, the couple gave the receipt to Redwine and Money, who went back into the store and got two of the same model of TVs. Loss prevention personnel observed Redwine and Money as they tried to leave the store, handing the store greeter the receipt from the original purchase. When loss prevention told the women they would have to come back inside to verify the receipt, both women ran in the direction of Chili’s. Officer Aguilar explains, “We had quick assistance from the Sheriff’s Office, State Troopers, and Precinct 2 Constables Office setting up a perimeter. A short time later, Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Ungles had found both women in laying in the brush.” Shirley Redwine and Janet Money were both booked-in to the county jail for the offense of Theft-Class A Misdemeanor. Their bonds were set at $2000 each by Justice of the Peace Bobby Rader. Both women had posted bond on Thursday, and were released pending their court dates. Sgt. Hunter added, “The investigation is ongoing. We still have to identify the male and female that made the original purchase. We’ll also be investigating the organized criminal activity aspects of the case.”
