Search Continues for Missing Horseman

DAYTON, November 2, 2009 - Dayton Police Chief Pete Douzat reported this morning that the search for a missing horseman in the floodwater of the Trinity River continues.

Since 11:30 Sunday night, searchers continued to search the area in small boats until around 2:00 AM. The search resumed at daylight this morning.

Officers were stationed in the area all night should any developments affecting the search be discovered.

Chief Douzat reported that personnel from the Liberty Police Department, Dayton Police Department, Liberty and Dayton Fire Departments and Texas Game Wardens were on the scene this morning.

Additionally Equistar has been contacted and will be joining the search today.

An HPD Helicopter has also been requested and will be arriving to assist in the search.

This morning according to Douzat people are searching the area on horseback, ATVs, on foot, and in boats.

Family members at the scene identified the missing man as Gene Roberts of Dayton.
