LIBERTY May 29, 2020 - In order to conduct repairs to the spillway (‘The Rocks’) at Champion Lake, Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge will be issuing intermittent closures of portions of Champion Lake Day Use Area, which will include a long-term closure of the levee and the area known as “The Rocks” once construction has begun. Projected construction may start as early as June. Prior to the commencement of the maintenance project, the lake will be drawn down to sufficient levels to begin drying out the spillway. Closure dates will not be determined until the project has been scheduled.
Until the closure dates are issued, the public is still encouraged to enjoy recreation at Champion Lake. For more information, please call 936/336-9786 or visit the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge Facebook and web pages.
