Specimen Collection and TestingAll specimens for COVID-19 virus testing require preapproval. Contact your local health department or DSHS Public health region to ensure patient meet PUI criteria for testing and obtain approval to test.
As of February 26th, 2020, there is no laboratory in Texas conducting testing for COVID-19. All testing is being done at the CDC Laboratory in Atlanta.
Infection Control and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Shortages of PPE are global and to be expected. DSHS and the CDC recommend use of PPE for patients with confirmed or possible COVID-19 and for healthcare personnel in necessary situations but not for the general public.
