Champion Lake Public Use Area is Now Open

LIBERTY April 1, 2019 - Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge has re-opened the Champion Lake Public Use Area.  The badly damaged culvert caused by from Hurricane Harvey has been replaced.  Additionally, the portable toilet has also been removed as there is now a “real” bathroom on top of the hill just before you go down to the fishing pier.  Remember, if you plan to fish or crab on the refuge, you need a State fishing license.  The Champion Lake Public Use Area is located at the end of County Road 417 off of FM 1409 in southern Liberty County and is free of charge.  It is open from sunrise to sunset.  For further information, please contact the Refuge at 936/336-9786.
