Chisholm Trail Exhibit Soon To Open

LIBERTY September 6, 2019 - The Liberty County Historical Commission in coordination with the Texas Lake Trails division of the Texas Historical Commission will sponsor a traveling exhibit, “THE CHISHOLM TRAIL…...150 YEARS OF HISTORY, FOLKLORE AND LEGACY” September 23rd through October 20th in the Lobby of First Liberty National Bank in Liberty.  The exhibit can be enjoyed during banking hours, Monday through Friday.  There will be thirty-three (33) pieces, mostly historical photographs, maps and other memorabilia included in this interesting exhibit.

Six to ten million cattle, one million horses and twenty-five to thirty-five thousand men and a few brave women went up the trail.  The cattle trails facilitated the largest movement of animals by man in recorded history.  It was the beginning of the Texas cattle industry of today.  The money from the cattle drives resurrected the economy of Texas after the Civil War.  Major syndicates from England invested in Texas.  Texas cattle and cowboys spread north to Montana and Wyoming.  The image of the cowboy was established in art, literature and film.  Texas is known throughout the world as Cowboy Country.  There are many trail influences remaining today.
