FINDING YOUR IMMIGRANT ANCESTOR – A CASE STUDY

LIBERTY November 5, 2019 - The Liberty County Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, November 19th, in the DAR Meeting House behind the Cleveland-Partlow House on Grand Avenue.  The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a short business session followed by the program “FINDING YOUR EARLY IMMIGRANT ANCESTOR: A CASE STUDY – THE FLOWER FAMILY OF STEPNEY PARISH, MIDDLESEX, ENGLAND.”

How do you find your original immigrant ancestor wayyyy back in the 1600s and how do you skip across the “pond” to discover their beginnings?  It may involve records or sources  you have not thought of using before.   You may have to build a case from a preponderance of evidence from available records here and on other continents!  Linda Jamison, President of LCGS and County Chair of the Liberty County Historical Commission will share a “case study” from one of her family lines, the Flower family of Stepney Parish, England and Isle of Wright (Surry) County, Virginia.  The Flower family eventually migrated to Nash County, North Carolina and then on to Alabama, Mississippi and eventually, Texas.  Tales of dangerous sea voyages and difficulties during the colonization of America, colored by migration south and west, establishing new colonies and communities along the way!  Stories of war, epidemics, orphaned children and how families banded together to get through the hard times during migration and settlement of the original 13 colonies and later as treaties were made, and the west was opened and settled.  This story is not unique but is woven with the same common thread that brought all our forefathers to this great country.

The Liberty County Genealogical Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month, always with an interesting program or workshop on various aspects of family research and history.  You are invited to attend and join our organization!  For more information email:  libertygenie@yahoo.com
