LCHC Guest Speaker Will Be Author Robert B. Scherer, Jr.
LIBERTY January 15, 2018 - The Liberty County Historical Commission will hold its first quarterly meeting of the new year on Monday, January 21st, 2019, 6:00 p.m. in the A. J. “Jack” Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto Street, Liberty, Texas.  Meetings are open to the public and they are encouraged to attend.

The guest speaker will be Robert B. Scherer, Jr. of Anahuac, well known in southeast Texas and former County Chair of the Chambers County Historical Commission.  Mr. Scherer has written several books on Chambers County including his most recent publication, “FAMILY ON THE BAY” the story of Walter Ament Scherer and wife, Anna Laura Willcox Scherer and their descendants.  This beautifully written chronicle of the Scherer family includes their triumphs and tragedies and many wonderfully preserved photos.  The history of Chambers and Liberty counties are closely intertwined and this family story along with many others share a common thread in our national heritage.  You do not want to miss this piece of history!

Also, during our business meeting, attendees will learn about the many projects of your county historical commission including historical markers, cemetery preservation and Historic Texas Cemetery designations, special education events, oral history projects and community outreach!  County Historical Commissions were created by the Texas Legislature to carry out the work of historic preservation in their county and to act as a liaison between the Texas Historical Commission and the county.  They operate under the guidance of Commissioner’s Court in each county.  The public is encouraged to volunteer and serve on a committee and attend meetings.  For more information, please email:
