Constaables Apprehend Felon

LIBERTY August 30, 2018 - On August 29, 2018 at approximately 7:45am Liberty County Sheriff’s Office dispatch broadcast that a vehicle had been stolen in Jefferson County and was headed to Liberty County. 

Liberty County Pct. 2 Deputy George Daniels observed the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle which fled.  The vehicle proceeded west on Hwy 90 at speeds exceeding 100 mph and turned north on FM 1909.  Two additional Pct. 2 units, Deputy John Tucker and Deputy Chris Dryer joined the pursuit and headed west on FM 160.  The vehicle turned off FM 160 thru a private driveway and out into an open field.   The vehicle led deputies through fences and approximately 1 ½ mile through hay fields.  The driver abandoned the truck when he got to the rail road tracks and fled on foot then crossed Hwy 90 and headed south. 

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty County Pct. 2 and DPS set up a perimeter and contained the suspect in a wooded area.  Jefferson County deputies arrived and provided additional suspect information.  A DPS helicopter arrived within 15 minutes and began searching the area.  Liberty County Sheriff’s Office canine was deployed and was on track until the heavy thunderstorms and lighting at which time the helicopter and canine had to be withdrawn. 

Liberty County Constable’s Office Pct. 2 charged Marty Ray Jarrett  with Felony Evading in a Vehicle,  a third degree felony.
