Become a Texas Master Naturalist

LIBERTY June 11, 2018 ⎯ The Lower Trinity Basin Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist Program, serving Liberty and Chambers counties area of Southeast Texas, will be holding a new training class for those interested in becoming a Certified Master Naturalist. The mission of this program is to develop and certify a group of well informed volunteers to provide education, outreach and service dedicated toward the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within our community. This program will furnish participants with essential information and strategies to restore conserve our indigenous species and habitats. Throughout the training class, local experts will cover interesting topics about our natural resources and lead hands-on field trips to local ecosystems. Texas Master Naturalist trainees may select from a wide variety of approved local projects to volunteer their time. Projects may include habitat restoration, native plan rescues, prairie seed collection, school habitats, educational presentations, or projects of your own design approved by the chapter.

To become a Certified Master Naturalist of the Lower Trinity Basin Chapter, trainees must fulfill the following requirements:

Attendance at all training classes including 3 field trips
40 hours minimum of volunteer service on approved projects within a year.
8 hours of advanced training in approved classes within a year.

To maintain active status, Texas Master Naturalists must complete the following annually:

40 hours of volunteer service on approved projects.
8 hours of advanced training in approved classes.

Training classes will be held at 6 pm or 6:30 pm on designated Thursdays starting July 19. Most classes will be held at the Lee College Liberty Extension Building at 1517 SH 146 Byp, Liberty, TX 77575. Field trip schedules will be announced at the start of the classes. The fee for this training session is $150 plus $25 chapter dues. The class will be limited to 20 participants. Selection criteria include: interest in the program, availability for volunteer service and commitment to stewardship of our natural resources.

The application deadline is June 15, 2018. You must mail the $175 ($150 fee and $25 dues) with your application. Please make checks or money order payable to Lower Trinity Basin MN.
