“Mapping Texas” Program For County Historical Commission
LIBERTY April 5, 2018 ⎯ The Liberty County Historical Commission will hold its regular quarterly meeting at the A.J. “Jack” Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto Street, Liberty, Texas at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16th. Guest speaker will be Brandice Nelson of the GLO.
The GLO contains over 45,000 maps which document both the history of Texas itself and the development of cartography as it relates to the state. The collection includes many of the most important maps in Texas’ history, including Stephen F. Austin’s Connected Map of Texas and maps of the state created exclusively for the GLO. These records are versatile in their use, and appeal to a variety of researchers. The GLO welcomes tours of the map vault from schoolchildren and state legislators alike and provides visual representation of the history of Texas land. Please attend this important meeting of the Liberty County Historical Commission and enjoy this fascinating program on Texas history and learn of the many preservation projects in which the commission is involved in Liberty County! Meetings are open to the public and they encouraged to attend! For more information please contact County Chair, Linda Jamison at lchc318@gmail.com or call 936-334-5813.
