DAISETTA December 21, 2018 - An abundance of smiling faces, serenaded by Christmas carols, formed a merry framework for the very first Community Christmas Gathering ever hosted by the City of Daisetta. The gathering took place on December 6th at Daisetta City Hall between 6PM to 8PM. The event, which is tentatively scheduled to become an annual affair, was sponsored by Entergy Texas, Inc, with a gracious donation of $1000.00 to help defray expense.
Hot cocoa and cookies were served to approximately 200 area residents, throughout the two-hour event, as the City of Daisetta Mayor Eric Thaxton thanked Entergy for supporting the celebration and the crowd for attending.
“This is something positive for the citizens of Daisetta and surrounding areas,” said Mayor Thaxton. “It’s a time to come together and enjoy the company of family and friends while we celebrate Christmas as a community.”
Refreshments weren’t the only highlight of the evening because, along with the lighting of the tree, children were surprised by a visit from Santa Claus. Children anxiously awaited their opportunity to sit on Santa’s knee and express their Christmas wishes to the jolliest old elf of them all. Laughter filled the cool night air as even a few adults had a seat with Santa and possibly voiced a few wishes of their own. In the background, local singers took the stage to entertain the crowd with a few traditional Christmas carols that perfectly rounded the evening into a very peaceful and successful occasion.
Mayor Thaxton conveyed his wish that the Community Christmas Gathering could become an annual event. “I’m looking forward to making this event an annual affair and I’m very pleased with the turnout for our very first gathering ever. I’m genuinely hoping to see everyone back here next year.”
