Demonstration at Richter Elementary School

DAYTON, October 24, 2017 - On Tuesday October 24th, 2017 the Liberty County Precinct 4 Constable's Office conducted a K9 demonstration at the E.R. Richter Elementary School in Dayton, in cooperation with Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's Office, for Red Ribbon Week.

The demonstration was conducted in the cafeteria in the presence of students and staff.

Precinct 4 deputies utilized one of two of their narcotics detection dogs, K9 Ronny, a Labrador Retriever from the Czech Republic, who is trained to locate the odor of Marijuana, Cocaine, Methamphetamine and Heroin.  K9 Ronny's commands are in the Czech language and a demonstration of obedience commands were displayed.

K9 Ronny has been a narcotics detection dog since 2009 and continues to serve in this capacity.

K9 Ronny also conducted some practical exercises to demonstrate his effectiveness in locating the odors of narcotics.

Constable Thornton advised that he is pleased to now offer this new skill set to the Precinct 4 community in an attempt to help deter drug activity in our area.

The drug K9's will be utilized to conduct narcotic investigations and to conduct routine inspections at the schools.

Constable Thornton points out the this service is at no cost to taxpayers as both K9's are owned and maintained by their handler, Lieutenant Croft.
