Missing Person Located
LIBERTY, February 6, 2017 - On February 5, 2017 at approx. 11:00 a.m. Liberty Police returned to a location near the Trinity River to continue searching for the missing person reported almost a week ago. The missing person was identified as Benjamin Cornell. During this follow up Officers located what they believed to be a human body in a large body of water near the end of Washington St.. Officers followed up by taking aerial photos which verified it was in fact a human body. Liberty Fire Department was called for assistance in the recovery.
The recovered body was identified to be that of Benjamin “Wes” Cornell, age 37 of Liberty. Mr. Cornell was last seen Sunday the 29th around 1:00 p.m. walking down towards the water where he was known to spend allot of time. He never returned. Police along with citizens have searched the area for the past week with no results until now.
The body will be taken to Jefferson County Morgue for an Autopsy which was ordered by Judge Larry Wilburn to determine cause and nature of death. At this time there is no evidence of foul play.
