Man Can't Ride Moped Home after Afternoon at VFW

LIBERTY, June 28, 2017 - On 06/26/2017 around 3:45 PM, an Officer with the Liberty Police Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 1400 block of Main St.

On arrival the Officer made contact with a subject who was standing next to a red moped. When asked what happened the subject stated that he was at the VFW and had too much to drink and wrecked his bike. The subject had red glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The Officer also noticed that the driver had a hard time balancing while he stood.

The Officer then spoke to two witnesses that saw that the subject, identified as John Hebert Beasley age 66, had laid the moped down in the parking lot and then helped him up. They then said that the subject then attempted drive off and made it approximately 40 yards and fell over again. The Officer then administered a series of field sobriety test and the subject did poorly on all.

Beasley was then placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and his statutory warning was read to him. The subject then agreed to provide a breath specimen and was transported to the jail. Once at the jail the subject provided a specimen of his breath and it showed to be 0.223 g/21 O L. Being the results were over 0.15 the charge was enhanced to a class A misdemeanor. Beasley's bond was set at $1,500 dollars.
