Liberty PD Receives Tasers

LIBERTY, March 1, 2017 - Liberty Police were presented with Tasers which were donated by the SHANE DETWILER FOUNDATION Tuesday evening.

The funding for 7 new Tasers, holsters, and extra batteries was donated after a request was made to the foundation by the Liberty Police Department.

The donation of $8000, was set specifically the Taser purchase.  Tasers are used by police as a less then Lethal Use of Force to bring a subject under control.  Since its introduction the Taser is believed to have helped cut the use of force by officers in some cases more than 50%.

The Shane Detwiler Foundation was created after Deputy Detwiler was killed in the line of duty in 2009 as he served as a Chambers County Deputy.  There is a fundraiser planned for September 29th and 30th of this year which will be held at the Old Wal-Mart Parking Lot. Watch for more information to come.    Thanks for all your support.
