SCAM ALERT

LIBERTY, December 19, 2017 - The Liberty Police Department has received reports from two separate businesses today of a phone call scam.  The caller identifies himself as “Mr. Edwards,” (who speaks with a Jamaican accent) and he advises that he is with “Utilities with Liberty” and that they are going to cut off the lights within the next 30 minutes due to non-payment.  He then gives a number to call for further information.  When the number is called no one will answer, but someone calls back a few minutes later.  At this point we are not sure how they want payment since both reportee’s hung up before getting to that point.

If you receive such a call, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION LIKE CREDIT CARD NUMBERS, BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS, ETC.  Hang up immediately and call the City of Liberty, using the phone numbers that are listed in the local telephone book or from the cities official website, and ask for verification of your account status.  Then call the Liberty Police Department and report it.

If you have further questions please contact the Liberty Police Department.

Thanks and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
