LIBERTY, May 16, 2017 - On Monday May 15, 2017 at approx. 12:00 p.m. Liberty Police responded to the downtown area in reference to a burglary in progress near the Ott Hotel. While en-route Police learned that a resident at the Hotel was possibly chasing the suspect. Upon arrival officers learned that the citizens who had chased the suspect had lost sight of him on the back side of the Opry and FLNB Corner Building in the 1800 Block of Sam Houston.
||After a search of the area Police located Lewis William Peden, age 38 of Dayton up in the roof area between the Opry and FLNB Corner Building. Peden was removed from the confined area by police and taken into custody.
Initial investigation determined that Peden was discovered coming out of an apartment on the back side of the Ott Hotel by the resident. He was said to have had several items in his hands. When confronted Peden jumped from the second story to the ground, he then jumped a couple fences and went into a small area between buildings and climbed into A/C area where he removed his clothing and attempted to conceal himself. All items that Peden took from the residence was recovered. Peden was Charged with Burglary of a Habitation which is a 2nd Degree Felony. Bond was set by Judge Hebert at $100,000.
