Man Arrested with Three Prior DWI Arrests

LIBERTY, July 13, 2017 - On July 10, 2017 around 8:52 PM, Officers with the City of Liberty Police Department were dispatched to an attempt to locate on U.S. Hwy 90, in reference to a possible intoxicated driver.

The witness stated a white Nissan Armada SUV was swerving and switching lanes erratically on U.S. Hwy 90. The witness provided a partial license plate and stated the vehicle might have turned off at the boat ramp on U.S. Hwy 90.

An Officer located the vehicle, and observed a subject sitting in the vehicle with the engine on. The Officer observed several open containers, and the driver, identified as Eduardo Jesus Lopez age 36 of Liberty, to have red glassy eyes, slurred speech, and being unsteady upon his feet.

The Officer administered the Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST's) on the driver. The Officer only administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. The driver refused to complete the other tests. The Officer then placed the driver into custody for DWI. The driver refused to provide a specimen of blood. The Officer procured a blood search warrant. The Officer then executed said warrant and obtained the specimen from the driver.

The Officer later transported the subject to the Liberty County Jail. The driver has three prior convictions for Driving While Intoxicated.
