Man Arrested Asleep in Store

LIBERTY, May 6, 2017 - On April 28, 2017, Officers with the City of Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a local business in reference to a possible intoxicated subject in the store.

Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the reporting party who directed them to the subject. A male subject was found asleep inside the store in the craft section. The subject appeared to be disoriented.

The subject appeared to have pinpoint pupils. An Officer administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. The Officer observed all six clues of HGN including Vertical Nystagmus.

Fearing the subject was a danger to himself or others while being in a public place the subject was taken into custody for public intoxication. The subject, identified as Scott Anthony Lemelle age 33 of Baker Circle in Ames, was searched incident to arrest. The Officer located a small clear plastic baggy with a crystal like substance, based on the Officer's training and experience it was believed to be methamphetamine. The Officer field tested the crystal like substance that did test positive for methamphetamine.

Lemelle was then transported to the Liberty County Jail. The total weight of methamphetamine was less than one gram. Bond was set at 10,000 dollars.
