Early Morning Arrest for DWI on Cos Street

LIBERTY, June 9, 2017 - On June 3, 2017 around 1:44 AM, an Officer with the City of Liberty Police Department, was patrolling the 2700 block Grand Ave. in Liberty.

The Officer observed a dark gray vehicle traveling eastbound on Grand Ave. As the vehicle passed the Officer, he observed a defective license plate lamp and the vehicle's registration plate could not be observed. The Officer located the vehicle in the 2700 block of Cos St. The Officer effected a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Cos St.

The Officer made contact with the subject identified as Blaine Joseph Denais age 32 of Dayton, who was sitting in the driver's seat with his hands upon the steering wheel, and was operating the vehicle bearing Arkansas LP. The Officer had the subject open the driver’s side door due to the driver's window being unable to roll down. The subject also was very thick tongued with slurred speech. The Officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Denais. The Officer asked Denais if he had been drinking. The subject stated one beer. The subject later stated he had two "tall boys".

The Officer had Denais step out of the vehicle. The Officer observed Denais stumble before starting the SFST's. The Officer then began the SFST's. Denais did poorly on the SFST's and was taken into custody for Driving While intoxicated.

Denais agreed to a breath sample. A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper conducted the intoxilyzer operation. The breath test showed to be 0.142 g/210 L and 0.141 g/21 O L.

The Officer then released Denais to the Liberty County Jail staff.

His bond was set at $1,500 dollars.
