Houston Man Arrested after becoming disoriented

LIBERTY, June 27, 2017 - On June 18, 2017 around 9:25 PM, an Officer with the City of Liberty Police Department was dispatched to an attempt to locate for a vehicle driving slowly on U.S. Hwy 90 coming from Ames. Multiple 911 calls were received in reference to the vehicle. Callers stated as many as thirty cars were behind the vehicle.

The Officer observed the vehicle, being a white Ford F-150 stationary on the westbound shoulder of U.S. Hwy 90 before the 146 Bypass. As the Officer turned around, the vehicle began to travel westbound on U.S. Hwy 90. The Officer observed an alcoholic beverage container and a floor mat where the truck was sitting on the shoulder.

The Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 300 block of S.H. 146 Bypass. The Officer made contact with the driver. The driver, identified as Edwin Ranfolfo Arana age 43 of Houston stated he was lost and in the Houston area currently.

The Officer had the Arana step out of the vehicle. The Officer administered the Standard Field Sobriety Tests on the driver. Arana did poorly on all SFSTs. The Officer then placed Arana into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. The passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody for Public Intoxication.

Arana agreed to a breath specimen. The driver's breath sample showed to be 0.168. Arana was later booked into the Liberty County Jail for Driving While Intoxicated BAC >=0.15.
