Man Arrested in Store Parking Lot

LIBERTY, June 22, 2017 - On June 17, 2017 around 10:43 PM, an Officer with the City of Liberty Police Department received a call from the on duty Liberty Fire Department Captain of a possible intoxicated subject in the 2400 block of Main St.
The Officer located the subject, identified as Darvin Anthony Alexander age 38 of Newman Street in Liberty, in the Budget Food parking lot standing next to a pickup truck. He was attempting to put a shirt on.

The Officer observed a liquid, possibly urine, on the ground next to the subject and vehicle. The Officer observed Alexander to be very lethargic, red glassy eyes, heavy footed, with slurred speech, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The Officer administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test (HGN). The Officer observed all six clues of HGN including Vertical Nystagmus.

Fearing for Alexander’s safety and the safety of others, the subject was taken into custody for public intoxication, and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
