Man Charged with DWI After Retrieving Vehicle

LIBERTY, June 29, 2017 - On 06/18/2017 Officers with the Liberty Police Department were called to the 700 block of Layl Dr. in reference to a disturbance.

While en route to the location Officers were told that the male subject was leaving in his vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and stopped the vehicle for a defective brake light. The stop was conducted in the 400 block of Layl Dr. Officers then made contact with the driver.

Just before the current call Officers had already had two calls at the same residence. On the prior call Officers gave the subject a ride to a hotel nearby and advised him to stay inside. The subject was also told not to go get his vehicle that was at the residence in the 700 block of Layl due to him being intoxicated.

The Officer recognized the driver, identified as Tommy Ray Adams age 62 of Liberty, and instructed him to exit the vehicle. The Officer then administered a series of field sobriety tests and the driver did poorly on all tests. Adams was then placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver was then read his statutory warning and a breath specimen was requested. Adams agreed to provide the specimen and was transported to the Liberty County Jail.

Adams then provided a specimen and it showed to be 0.153 g/210 L. Due to the results the charge was enhanced to a class A misdemeanor DWI BAG > = 0.15.
