I-10 Closed in Both Directions

LIBERTY, May 2, 2012 - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department informed i-dineout.com that I-10, before the Winnie Exit, near Hampshire Road, has been closed in both directions due to a major traffic accident involving a tanker truck. The truck was loaded with methanol which is highly flamable and dangerous. Both east and westbound traffic is being diverted onto US 90 running through both Liberty and Dayton. This is currently causing traffic to build coming through Liberty at the present time and may get worse before it gets better. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department this closure may last several hours and remain in effect until later this evening. The City of Liberty Police Department notified i-dineout.com that, "The closure of I-10 has detoured traffic from parts of I-10 to HWY 90 and FM 563 causing back up of traffic in the City of Liberty." In our local area you may want to select an alternate route or postpone traveling on US 90 in the local area to avoid traffic back ups.
